Miaoli County is located at the north-central part of Taiwan. The north and northeast side of it is connected to Hsinchu County. The south and east side of it is connected to Taichung County by Ta-an creek and Hsuehshan (Mountain) Range. As for the west side, it is connected to Taiwan Strait. Daba peak is located at Tai-an Township’s Mei-yuan village and it is the most east side of Miaoli. Miaoli County’s most west and south sides are Yuan-li Township’s Fang-li coastline and the south part of Jhuo-lan Township’s Nei-wan li. As to the most north side of Miaoli, it is the north part of Jhunan Township’s Ci-ding li. The county center is located in the Fonglin Village of Shihtan Village. The length of Miaoli County is fifty kilometers and the breadth of Miaoli County is sixty-four kilometers. The superficial contents of Miaoli County are 1,820.3149 square kilometers. The coastline of Miaoli County is almost 50 kilometers from the northern Ci-Din of Chunan to the southern Fangli Coast of Chunan. It makes the square of Miaoli looks like a diamond.

        Most of terrains of Miaoli County are mountain regions and wolds. So people always called Miaoli is a “Mountain Castle”. Because of the alluvial fan of Snowy Mountain Range has been corroded by rivers, the terrain of Miaoli County has been divided into several wolds and tablelands. There area several rivers shuttle through the different kind of terrains. And it makes so many different sceneries to Miaoli County.

Generally speaking, we can separate the terrains of Miaoli County into four types. They are plains、wolds、tablelands and mountains. Except of tablelands, they arranged in order from the west to the east.

The edge of Miaoli County is from east Niaozuei Mountain、Dawo Mountain、  Luchang Mountain、Daba Mountain、Wufeng Village of Hsinchu、Chienshih Village to the Taiwan Strait. It from the southern Huoyan Mountain、Small Snowy Mountain、Big Snowy Mountain、Snowy Mountain and Tachia of Taichung County、Tungshih Town、Hsinshe Village and Hoping Village. The north is from Ciding、Shihtou Mountain、Ekungchi Mountain、Hsiangshan Village and Emei Village of Hsinchu County. The total superficial contents are 1,820.3149 square kilometers.
