Abstract: Industry, Commerce and Service Census, 2001, Miaoli County, Preliminary Report

The major findings of the Census in Miaoli County

l          The number of industry and commerce units

Till the end of 2001, the total number of industry and commerce enterprise units in Miaoli County was 19,157, increasing 4.3% in five years. The number of place units was 19,900, accounting for 2.06% of the total place units in Taiwan and Min area. Compared with 1996, the number of units increased 890 (4.7%). The increasing rate was the second lowest in the six counties and cities in central Taiwan, only higher than Nantou County. Comparing the number of units within County administration area, Miaoli City was the first, with 4,182 units (21%); Toufen Township was the second, with 3,594 units (18%); Jhunan Township was the third, with 3,060 units (15%).

l          The number of employees and payments

At the end of 2001, 116,648 employees were in the industry, commerce and service units, accounting for 1.73% of the total employees in Taiwan and Min area. Compared with 1996, the number decreased 8,468 (6.8%). The average payment of each employee was NT$454,000. Payments accounted for 17.7% of the total expense, decreasing 0.83% compared with 1996. 
Revenues, expenses, and profits of the whole year.

l          In 2001, the total revenue of industry and commerce enterprises in Miaoli County was NT$270,000,000,000, increasing 9.8% compared with 1996. The total expense was NT$259,800,000,000, increasing 11.1% compared with 1996. The profit was NT$10,200,000,000. The profit rate was 3.8%, decreasing 1.2% in five years. 
Practical usage asset:

l          In 2001, the total practical usage asset of industry and commerce enterprises in Miaoli County was NT$439,600,000,000, increasing 6% compared with 1996. The total fixed asset was NT$197,600,000,000, increasing 4.3% compared with 1996. Manufacturing enterprise is the highest among all sectors.
Gross Output

l          In 2001, the Gross Output of Miaoli County enterprises was NT$208,6900,000,000, increasing 5.3% compared with 1996. The Gross Output of manufacturing enterprise was NT$136,200,000,000, accounting for more than half of the total Gross Output.
The operating scales of enterprises

l          In 2001, the average employees per company was 5.3, decreasing 0.7 compared with 1996. The average operating asset per company was NT$22,950,000, increasing 1.7% compared with 1996. The average operating asset per employee was NT$4,350,000, increasing 16.6% compared with 1996. The average Gross Output per employee was NT$2,070,00, increasing 15.7% compared with 1996. These data showed that the labor production increased due to the higher percentages of laboring equipment. The practical asset Gross Output per NT dollar was NT$0.48, same as the data collected five years ago.
