The ceremony for the completion of the expansion of Miaoli City Jiangong tunnel was held this morning. The bright 4-land road and the elegant lighting brighten the landscape of the city. To improve the traffic, the County Government strived for a grant of more than NT$ 83,000,000 from Construction and Planning Agency, Ministry of Interior for the expansion project. The construction started the end of 2004. The major construction includes the following three parts: (1) a two-lane 225.20-meter passage going through Jhongshan Road and the railway, and connecting Jhongjheng Road and Fudong Road, (2) a two-land 148.56-meter mixed passage, going through the railway and connecting Jhongshan Road and Fudong Road, and (3) the landscape green project, illumination equipment and other related construction projects.

After 20 month construction, Jiangong tunnel expansion project is completed today. Magistrate Liu Jheng-hong, Legislator Syu Yao-chang, Legislator He Jhih-huei, Mayor Zou Yu-mei, several County Councilors and Heads of Village all burned joss sticks and prayed for good traffic and safety. Later a ceremony was held and a dance performance was given by children of Jiangong elementary school.

Magistrate Liu Jheng-hong said, because the school semester is starting soon, to improve the traffic, he requested the construction units to finish the expansion by the end of August that the school children and those who commute would not need to go around a big circle through Changchun Road and Youdian Street

In addition, the completion of the Jiangong street and Jiangong tunnel expansion project makes it more convenient to travel by the east-west bound fast roads connecting Yucing Bridge to the County Government Office. He said, he also has requested the County Police Department to improve the traffic control system to make the traffic smooth, which in turn will bring prosperity.
